That is exactly what we did.

There are two primary differences between us and the rest of the chocolate retailing world.

The first is just the sheer selection of fine chocolates we offer. We usually have in stock more than 220 individual pieces of chocolate from about 14 different chocolatiers. We try not to be too precise here because we are always looking for new chocolatiers or new pieces from our existing chocolatiers. Therefore our inventory can vary and so can the number of chocolatiers we represent. So if you are a chocolatier or have a favorite chocolatier, just let us know.

Our signature concept is our unique Chocolate ID Cards. Each box of chocolate we sell has a little envelope on top of the candy pad that contains our Chocolate ID Cards. Each card has the name of the Chocolatier, the name of the Chocolate, the picture of the Chocolate and a description of that Chocolate. All information is in 12 point font size (you can read it!).

Why the Chocolate ID Cards? Because we hate getting a box of chocolate and not knowing what each piece is in the box. I know, but what about the guide? We all know those guides. A tiny booklet that lists every piece of chocolate the Chocolatier makes. The guides are ok, but they are usually written with a very small font and have a tiny picture.

Well, we are not as young as we used to be (and certainly not getting any younger). Our eyesight is not as good as it used to be. And, we like to drink wine with our dinner.

You know the story, dinner is over, you’ve had some wine; you’ve taken your glasses off and now you want CHOCOLATE!!!!!! So you grab that beautiful blue box from Chatham’s Fine Chocolates.

After untying the hand tied yellow ribbon, you lift the top off and take the envelope out (the envelope says, “The treasures that await you!”); you take the cards out and begin to read the amazing descriptions of these chocolates created by phenomenal chocolatiers from around the world.

Maybe you pass the cards to your guests first and let each person choose one card. Or have a lottery to get to see who picks first. Whatever your method, what we hope is that our cards help end Chocolate Abuse.

We have all seen a box of chocolate that has been abused. Those half eaten chocolates or holes in the bottoms of chocolates because (fill in the blank) uses a (again fill in the blank, but my personal favorite is a toothpick or worse a finger) to find the flavor they are looking for.

So who came up with this concept? Two very fun, interesting, unusual people: Chatham and Jennie Kitz. We were best friends for many years before we got married. We’re still best friends and have been married since 1995.
